Technical data:
Why do I need an air purifier? ... And above all, what advantages does it have for me?
DUST
Thanks to the filter system, the air is freed from dust (house dust or fine dust).
BACTERIA AND VIRUSES
Air purifiers with HEPA filters can effectively reduce air pollution by aerosols, bacteria and viruses.
MOLD SPORES
In addition to dusts, mould spores also get caught in the filter system.
ANIMAL HAIR
Last but not least, animal hair is also bound in the filter system and thus removed from the indoor air.
Why do I need an air purifier?
When house dust and pollen accumulate in the room air, allergy sufferers have a particularly hard time. They are often more sensitive to polluted air. But even people without allergies are exposed to polluted air, sometimes unconsciously.
Especially in the cold season, the quality of indoor air decreases significantly. This is because the difference in temperature means that less air is ventilated than in summer.
LOCATION OF THE FLAT
In city centres and especially along busy roads, air quality drops noticeably. This is because particulate matter and soot add to the already polluted air we breathe.
THE SEASON
Due to constantly running radiators in the cold season, for example, dust and pollen particles in the air are stirred up much more often. This additionally pollutes the indoor air.
RESPIRATORY DISEASES
The polluted air constantly irritates our respiratory tract. Therefore, the risk of contracting a disease of our respiratory tract increases. The risk of infection, for example, is significantly higher in winter.
OWN WELL-BEING
In addition to headaches or restless sleep, we may also experience listlessness or breathing problems, for example. A clean room air will remedy this, so that one's own well-being will increase significantly.
THE ROOM SIZE
Air purifiers have different capacities. It depends on this whether they are powerful enough for your room. If the device is too weak and the room is too large, it will not be able to completely fulfil the desired purpose.
NOISE
The units draw in the air in the room through a fan. This causes noise. If you want to place your device in the bedroom, the air purifier should have a larger fan and, if possible, a night mode.so it can remain in operation at night without disturbing noise.
POWER CONSUMPTION
Your air purifier will probably be in operation often. So similar to a refrigerator. Therefore, it should consume as little power as possible. The biggest consumer is the fan. It sucks in the air from the room. In high-quality devices, this can be set at different levels.
SUPPORT FROM THE MANUFACTURER
Customer service from the manufacturer is also important. In the event of damage, service or warranty claims, it is easier to obtain spare parts from well-known manufacturers.
Air purifiers against the new type of coronavirus
Modern air purifiers with HEPA filters contribute to the improvement of indoor air in closed rooms. Equipped with a complex filter system, they efficiently reduce various particles and suspended matter from the indoor air. These include house dust, fine dust, as well as bacteria and viruses.
2.1 Can an air purifier render the novel coronavirus Sars-CoV-2 harmless?
A modern air purifier cannot render the novel coronavirus harmless! This statement would be fundamentally wrong. However, they are able to significantly reduce the concentration of viruses, bacteria and aerosols in indoor air. Thus, they also help to slow or contain the spread of Sars-CoV-2.
2.2 Which air purifiers are suitable?
An air purifier with a HEPA filter can be used as a support and preventive measure. Commercially available air washers, on the other hand, are not able to filter viruses and bacteria out of the room air due to their design.
Air purifiers are not a panacea and therefore will not prevent possible infection with Sars-CoV-2. However, they can be used to assist in containing further spread. Their complex filtration systems filter pollutants from indoor air and reduce overall exposure. However, the air purifier does not replace proper and sufficient ventilation.
Whether an air purifier should be purchased specifically for use against the novel coronavirus Sars-CoV-2 is ultimately up to each individual to decide. In principle, however, the purchase of an air purifier can be a sensible additional measure.
